Teresa de Marcos de Paz

Age: 25

I am not a refugee - I grew up in Nebaj. But during the war they killed my only brother. My brother's child is 20 by now and since he is orphaned, he lives with us. I live with my parents - I'm separated from the father of my children.

Fabustino is 8 years old, Mario is 4, and Juanito here is 1 and 1/2. My only income comes from weaving, since I don't have a job. I don't receive government assistance. I only cultivate a little piece of land - the size of a garden.

I'd like to see us getting a break for a change, but that is not likely to happen; they have discriminated against us long before the war. Today fortunately it is not so bad any more, and as women we can speak up for our rights. I wish we would at least be supported in receiving an education. We can't even afford the school uniforms. My kids should be able to dress traditionally and still receive a decent education.

If someone is out there who could help my family to make ends meet I would be very thankful. The most important thing in my life as of now is income, some kind of work, money, 'Pisto' - dough.

Of course I aspire to higher goals, but without these basics - well... since you ask me: I like music, especially the violin, the guitar, even though I don't play any instrument.

During the war we couldn't afford to have much hope, today - at least we try to be hopeful...

You have to send some photos back to me, promised?
